When the movie “Forrest Gump” premiered in 1994, it was an instant box-office success. Lost in the shuffle and shadow of that film was “Shawshank Redemption.” The now classic film failed to gain much attention until years later. There’s a lesson there.
Many of the films we love, like “The Big Lebowski” and “Office Space” received less than stellar reviews and ticket sales were next to nothing. The same goes for classics like, “Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory” and “It’s a Wonderful Life," both of which struggled to find an audience. (Ironically, Frank Capra went bankrupt producing his Christmas classic.) Even “Citizen Kane," considered by many the best film ever made, only earned $1.5 million at the box office. My point is, hang in there, it may take a while for your hard work, great idea, new approach, or brand new creation to catch on.
